Hey people!

And Happy New Month! Again it’s so hard for me to say that in person. I could relate with someone on my Instagram who said the nannies had taught her kids how to greet “Happy New Month” and she was slightly cringing, not sure how to tell them to stop!

I definitely never understood it as well, but these days I don’t really take any offence. I mean, it’s not particularly harmful is it? When I however see just abbreviations, then, I’m tempted to roll my eyes. How do people get comfortable with just typing “HNM!”.  Let’s not lose the art of proper writing & speaking. Fast and short isn’t always best.

Anyway that’s a bit of digression! It’s March already. Looked through my goals for the year and it doesn’t seem like I’ve achieved any! (Alarm bells going off). Time is flying! I feel like I’ve taken a few steps, but nothing has been fully ticked off the list.

If you read the my recap of January, you’re probably expecting me to highlight four things in February! Truth is I was expecting it as well. But by mid month I realised I didn’t exactly have four things to share. I mean, I could squeeze it and say this and this happened – but not quite sure I’m ready for being in that box and unnecessary pressure! Obviously if I have any juicy updates, I’ll still spill.

So, I think I’ll just bid good bye to the monthly recaps. It was fun while it lasted but on to the next!

What’s the next?

Well, you know I’ve been promising to share fun links from around the web for a while now, but never actually got around it. I think it’s time to finally start. I read & stumble on quite interesting things and I think they’d be great for others to read too.

So here’s what I’m proposing, and I hope you like it.

Every Friday I’ll share any fun updates from my week, weekend plans & then links for you to binge on during the weekend! But I’m hoping you make it a two way conversation and share your plans too and thoughts on the links! And who knows Friday’s may just become a favourite on this space.

Let’s dive in (all links open in new tabs!)

Fun Links From Around The Web

February was black history month in the US, and I thought this 5 year old girl dressed up as various iconic black women was so powerful yet cute!

I’m not much of a music person or Rihanna fan, but I feel like she may have won my heart with this video. Her speech at Harvard after receiving the humanitarian award is so so heartwarming. It’s just about a minute long – watch it here.

“An oasis in the desert” was a phrase I learnt as a child and loved it!. It’s such a rare occurrence and it was beautiful to see a real one via Ufuoma’s recent  travel to Peru.

Apparently there are 196 countries in the world, and Cassie De Pecol is the first woman to travel to them all in 18 months! Her budget – a whooping £167,000! I’ll love to interview her, but for now she shares her top 10 countries and why it’s a must see.

These portrait photos of women over 100 warmed my heart! Wish someone would do same for some black and/or African women.

And speaking of living to a 100, Tee would roll his eyes at all these, but I quite liked this article on foods to eat and what to do to live till 100.

Still stuck with bad hair days? I’ve previously talked about mine and my clip-in solutions (photo here) but I think everyone else prefers wigs! See this lovely article on why more women are embracing wigs.

Fun facts

Thandie Newton wore a wig to the 2017 BAFTAs - it cost £10,000 and was the third wig not used on the set of Mission Impossible II.

Adele's current wigs are named 'Jackie' and 'June'

You know how much I love love! Was hoping to contribute to Nik Nak’s Voice Note Episode on Love. But procrastination got the better of me. It’s a good listen – as lots of people share what the word love means to them – romantic or otherwise.

In other news of love, Jade Osiberu’s new film Isoken to be out in June, looks so good!  Super colourful and African culture on fleek – See the teaser here.

Still on African culture Chimamanda Adiiche explains via this 2 minute animation why it’s important for Africans to tell their story. That said, I enjoyed this Uzoamaka Doris Aniunoh’s new short story on Brittle Paper. Its funny and yet, very important. Read Mama Junior here.

Money & Relationships are so important, and I’ve previously shared money talks and questions to have and ask in a relationship. So The And (a pretty awesome YouTube Channel) chose to share money in relationships and I love it! So many have different feelings regarding talking about money with their significant other, whether because of a large difference in income or upbringing. I enjoyed this video with Ali and Adam – as they break down how their different upbringings informed the way they spend money as adults and this one where Andrew lets Keisha know how he feels about her spending big money without consulting him, and Keisha has a thing or two to say about no longer being the primary breadwinner in the family. I loved how Keisha said Andrew needed to sort out his retirement plans else she’d go on retirement holidays without him – hilarious!

Ike’s faith posts are super relatable and always such a delight to read. And this one on the biblical Queen of Sheba, the pursuit of wisdom & Solomon the Ladies’ man was awesome. Did you know the Queen of Sheba is probably Nigerian? Yep!

And finally, March 1st for Christians ushered in Lent – a time of renewal and repentance. I loved Osemhen’s pieces on Lent last year. So much practical stuff and goodness. This year, she’s linked back to it – practical things to give-up or pick up for Lent.

So that’s pretty much what I’ve got for you this week. I hope there’s something for everyone.

I’m really really hoping I manage to see a movie this weekend – like actually see a movie in the cinema. I hear Hidden Figures is great, so that’s all on the agenda for me, plus a whole lot of trying to work on those goals!

How was your February? Weekend Plans? What do you think of this new recap / fun links?

Let me know please and special thanks to Afoma who very kindly sent some of these links my way! I have no idea how she manages to do all that she does and still read, watch and listen to a lot of stuff!

Love,

Kachee… Xx

Ps: If you’re a female creative looking to be mentored by awesome people, you should totally apply for the For Creative Girls Mentorship Programme. I’m pretty chuffed to be on there as a mentor, alongside some awesome ladies. Applications end March 17.

PpS: If you’re a young entrepreneur or aspiring entreprenuer in Lagos you should really attend The Mesh Networks’ event on the 25th of March. Might be giving out a couple of tickets on Instagram. Let me know if you’re interested!

Interesting piece as always. I recently saw a post i put on facebook years back with too many short forms i could not even understand myself. The short forms these days are cringeworthy. I made up my mind to avoid any short forms of any sort since the beginning of this year. It affects you when you have to write the serious things. I looked up Chimamanda’s video (the sound of her name alone gets me on anything about her..lol). I never read the post on money talks until now i had to share on my facebook page. Thanks for all the bits and pieces of inspirationwww.ijefinelivin.com

Thanks Ije. Those old posts on Facebook make me cringe and sometimes I can’t believe I wrote them myself! Thank God for growth. Hope you’ve had a great week!

This is most likely the best monthly recap on your blog. You should totally keep this format. I just discovered some interesting links especially the video with Ali and Adam on YouTube thanks to this post. Very enjoyable. And how did I miss that great Sheba piece on Ike’s blog? Love it. And love her. You’re both my faves! And oh, thanks for the mention on my trip to Peru. The Oasis in the desert was simply mind-blowing. It was one of those locations where I sang God’s praises soon as I saw it. So much beauty in the world it’s unreal. Just trying to get my bank account to align with my travel plans so I can see everything lol.PS: Do you read Quora.com? That’s another internet gem. If you don’t (which I doubt), you should definitely check it out and follow your favorite categories. Thanks Kachee!www.theufuoma.comtravel lifestyle passion

Happy new month Kachee! You’re always coming up with fantastic ideas, I love this. Lool do people really type HNM?? That’s taking it too far. The lady that visited 196 countries is so inspiring, I would love to do that one day. Definitely checking out the link you posted. Also, there’s a new Buzzfeed video on the hairstyle of black women over the past century. I think you might find that interesting.I don’t really have any major plans for the weekend, I have two tests on Monday so it’s just me and my books lol. Great post as always! xxCoco Bella Blog

Exactly! All those abbreviations, ‘HNM,’ ‘HBD’ got me like, “Can you just type in full?!!!” 😄 Guess I’m not alone. 😁 Been so long I’ve been on the blog! I’m glad I can read and comment today.Huh? That travel link really got my attention. Not forgetting the #30before30 post you shared the other time. Still on my list. Definitely checking it out.Hahaha at the names of Adele’s wigs!I should see that movie, too! 😀The importance of telling our stories cannot be over emphasized. I definitely will tell mine. While I know it will be insightful, I’ll be sure to make it an interesting read, too. I shouldn’t ask if you think it’s important to tell our story. I know what you think about it already. 😊When I was about to tire out, I saw the end of the links. 😄 They are all insightful and just like you speculated, Fridays may just become a favourite day on the blog! Oh my, Queen of Sheba probably a Nigerian???! 😄😀😀😂 And of course, I’ll check out Ike’s faith posts. Thanks for sharing. And keep doing what you do.Love,Annie 😘😘Ps: This message has failed to deliver since Friday. I just decided to try again.

Awww girlie, thanks for trying again. Those abbreviations really do stress me out. I think I’ll limit the links to 8-10 so we don’t tire people out! Hope you’ve had a great week. Xx
