Happiness is like a butterfly which, when pursued, is always beyond our grasp, but which, if you will sit down quietly, may alight upon you.
In the spirit of #InternationalDayofHappiness, here are four random things that make me happy.
I have all the over 3,000 pictures on Dropbox and easily accessible on my phone. Just looking at them, brings back such beautiful memories and of course reminds me of the one day my make-up was probably on fleek. (Even though my fake eyelash started falling off halfway through the day, and so in some pictures I look really weird with a funny eyelash).
Not those huge red ‘SALE’ signs that litter the high street shops – those ones are a scam, kind of. There’s always some kind of sale going on. I mean real exclusive discount codes. Today I had an exclusive discount code which gave me 40% of my facial cleanser. Hahahaha. The person ahead of me at the till had just paid full price. I’m also that person who loves a good freebie… and not those ones with unseen terms and conditions. I had such a bad ‘freebie’ experience recently though. That deserves a post of its own.
I just love ping-pong (or Table-Tennis, as I’d rather call it). I literally can’t see a ping-pong table and walk past it. I have to have a go. I’m not so great at this game. I could be better – but I didn’t get a chance to improve thanks to my elder brother. You see, we had a table growing up, and he and his friends were having a go, when in an attempt to ‘smash’, his friend hit the bat at my little brother, and his two front teeth fell off. Lots of blood everywhere and I think my mum got rid of the table after that day. African parents are extreme though. It was just milk teeth for goodness sake. Now that’s the reason I can’t use my backhand and I can’t smash.
To be honest, this should probably top the list. Since the ‘Mrs’ became my title, goodness, nothing makes me happy like a clean sink, free of dirty dishes… (especially when it isn’t done by me). To think I’ve actually considered using plastic plates in my house. (Just kidding, mum… no need to get all agitated wondering if you didn’t raise me right).
For someone who can’t operate the cable TV remote, found Twitter so hard to understand, still does not get Google Hangout and is generally not tech-savvy, actually managing this blog makes me happy. It feels like my creation. My baby. Now I understand why new mothers get so fussy about every little thing… ‘oh my baby just held my finger’, ‘oh my baby just burped…’
pS: I thought of including food in this list, but it doesn’t exactly make me happy. I’m just cranky when I’m hungry, so food solves that crankiness. That’s not exactly the same thing I think.
ppS: Just so you don’t feel like you spent the last 2 minutes on random information (and because I actually care for ‘content’), know a few facts about this day, straight from the United Nations.
“At this time of grave injustices, devastating wars, mass displacement, grinding poverty and other manmade causes of suffering, the International Day of Happiness is a global chance to assert that peace, well-being and joy deserve primacy. It is about more than individual contentment; it is an affirmation that we have a collective responsibility to humanity.”
What random things make you guys happy?
How do you think we can help in our own little way to alleviate suffering around us? Please share.
Love,
Kachee… Xx

March 22, 2016 at 10:12I woke up to your comment this morning, and I knew it had to be a good day. Thank you so so much. I just saw your blog post re future daughter’s name. I have not read the full post, but someone stole my future daughter’s name as well! So annoying. I’ll check your blog as well. As for the hair… hmmm. I haven’t relaxed my hair in about 9 months, but I’m not sure it’s fully natural. Let’s see what happens. For now I just wanted a change. Thanks again… Have a great day!

March 23, 2016 at 14:23Amazingly, I was telling my sister last Saturday how happy and excited I was at your wedding (I still wonder why *rolls eyes). Meanwhile, I need the link to your wedding photos again, PLEASE (mwuah). What makes me happy? Extremely random things. Surprises that go well (when I’m the one being surprised), completing a task well and on time, bonuses, money, when I’m finally consistent with prayer, personal bible study, exercises and eating right. I can go on and on though.

May 10, 2016 at 14:48I was sad for you when I read that you had to yank off your nails because of typing for your new buiness. I know how much you love them! I’m trying to make an effort to have nice nails all the time, because I (and the Hubs) love it. But it takes so so long to get it done at the Salon! Goodness.Polite sales people is our right biko.
