It’s the tenth episode of these Friday Notes x Fun Links. I have to say that I thoroughly enjoy writing them. That said, I just may have to tweak the title slightly such that it becomes Weekend Notes. Many times, I’ve only had the post ready late on Friday, and have been unable to publish it the next day, because of the title. So hopefully, here’s a way out.
I know we all say TGIF all the time. But are Fridays really your favourite day of the week? I know that for my friends in the UAE, Friday isn’t a work day at all, so they obviously love it. But some people absolutely claim Mondays are their faves. Personally, my favourite weekday is often Thursdays. Because there’s usually that excitement knowing that the next day is a Friday and thus the weekend. But Thursdays still let me be productive. By Fridays, all I want to do is sleep!
I worked from home yesterday and thought that I’d be able to accomplish a million things! For one, I didn’t have to spend time commuting to and fro. But then it wasn’t super productive and made me wonder if I can actually be one of those people who work from home ALL day. Especially as I’m most productive at weekend and struggle to do work related stuff on weekends. Would you rather work from home?
It’s been three weeks a while since the last Friday Notes and I’ve been involved in quite a bit. I spent the entire weekend two weeks ago furniture shopping – and it all started when I saw a fancy reading chair & stool on Instagram and decided to go in search of something similar. Can’t believe we drove about 2 hours to check out a store someone had recommended. Still, no luck. Imagine how one second of Instagram scrolling ended up changing the entire course of my weekend!
Last weekend, I finally tried going to a thrift store. It didn’t work out. Lots of people say thrifting is the best thing, but it’s just never ever worked for me. Maybe the thrift stores close to me aren’t the right ones or I’m just not doing something right. Also I’ve finally got the hang of podcasts and I’ve been downloading quite a few. I love that unlike video content you don’t have to sit in one place to consume them.
Finally, something slightly serious that’s been on my mind and I’m wondering how you deal with it. So I was scrolling through and watching Instagram Stories when I came across a ‘friend’s’ page. In my opinion, her makeup and outfit was unflattering. But she was obviously so happy with her look. And I was happy she was happy. But I wondered if I should give an honest opinion. Would that make me a ‘hater?’. Does my opinion even matter if that’s what she likes?
Do we seek to hear only good stuff these days and aren’t open to constructive criticism? In the same vein when someone finally changed her business logo, I let her know that I wasn’t a fan of the old logo. And she said ‘why didn’t you tell me earlier?‘. Do you always share your genuine opinions – especially when all of Instagram and social media is filled with words like ‘Lit‘ ‘Killing it babe‘ and all of the fire and love struck emojis… what’s the way out?
Here are some fun links you might enjoy this weekend:
~ Do you find it tricky when your friends just have babies and you’re not exactly sure what to do? Aisha, one of the awesome 9 mummy bloggers we featured in this post on being ready and the right time to have kids, shared 5 ways to be a good friend to a new mum.
~ We had a talk at work recently and the presenter insinuated that women often take 5 years off work to have kids! I was going to debate that, but decided against it. But what if some people take a couple of years. How do you explain the gap on your CV. This interesting campaign urges women to re-brand their time off raising kids as a job! Suggestions for the for the description of the ‘Mum’ job, include “designer of human life” and “hands-on experience in development”. That’s funny, but what do you think? Do you have any experience in this?
~ You probably know I think being married to the right person is amazing. But I’m super convinced that there’s so much to achieve while being single. Don’t waste that season. This illustration on the gifts of being single by Mari Andrew is so spot on!
~ On relationships. Here’s a hilarious tongue-in-cheek post of the complete list of things men get absolutely right! You should check it out.
~ Ok, it’s another relationship one. What are your thoughts on being married but sleeping separately? This older post on the blog titled Love you Boo, but can’t share your toothbrush, Sorry! has the most comments to date (and explores the subject of sleeping together). I love sharing a bed (but also like my own space without a bed), but some people insist they need their own bed space. In this post, married couples share why they happily sleep apart (sometimes on the couch!) and everything else – how it happened, what friends think and even how sex happens! What’s your take?
~ Finally I liked this post on simple tricks to make habits stick. What new good habits are you trying to acquire?
Blog Spotlight – Through Our Eyes
Well, it’s more of a Vlog, but I’m a huge fan. Remember I suggested teaming up with other people to spice things up when blogging gets boring. These three ladies – Amarachi of Travel with a Pen, Mofe of Naija Nomads and Fola of Folaswaka who I featured in our post on 9 Female Travel Enthusiasts, have created a lovely YouTube Through Our Eyes travel channel and they do such an amazing job. It’s lovely to see more people collaborating. And their content is top notch. They talk all things related to travelling as a Nigerian, and their latest video at this moment is on making the best of our very beloved Green Passport (we know the struggles). Please check them out, subscribe to their channel and also check out their individual blogs. Amazing content!
That’s it from my end today. How have you been (in the past three weeks!). What’s exciting (or bleh)? I’ve heard so much good stuff about the movie Girls Trip and I’m hoping I can see it soon. There’s also a rather popular Nigerian musical – Saro the Musical coming to London in the next two weeks and I have plans for that. Asides that, it’s probably business as usual…I’ll often be sharing on my Instagram stories anyway so follow me @KacheeTee.
I hope you have an amazing weekend.
Love,
Kachee… Xx

August 26, 2017 at 17:20I love working from home, cos I don’t have to worry about leaving my bed or even stepping out of my room, but not when my dogs are being a pain with their incessant barking and disturbing my webex call. 😭😭I’m waiting for the online version of girls trip (don’t judge me 😭) cos I can’t seem to not fall asleep when watching a movie (P.S I’ve only seen 3 movies this year) so better to have an option to watch at my own pace. Lovely post bymariandrew. Will read the other links as well. Thanks for sharingXx
