Hey ya!
First Friday in July, and a good time to catch up on these notes and links – which I’ve been so terrible at!
But let’s just pick up where we left off, shall we? How was your past weekend? I had a pretty good one – although it’s was quite busy! The highlight of it being a surprise by Tee for our anniversary.
I was on my way home from work when he said not to bother coming home as we’d spend the night away – and he had packed all of my stuff! But I had chipped toenails and no way that was going to look good, so I popped into the store to buy nail polish. But I refused to buy polish remover to get the existing one off. Don’t judge – I had two full bottles at home and wasn’t going to ‘waste’ an extra £2. When would I finish 3 bottles? So I simply polished over the chipped ones – it wasn’t obvious don’t worry!
And although I trusted what outfit he may have picked out {and he said I’d look good in anything} I decided to buy a new dress as well because I felt like wearing something new and it’s been ages since I shopped for any clothes. Plus I didn’t want to ruin the day if I didn’t like what he picked up. Gotta be safe. Anyway he showed up with an anniversary card (adding to my greeting card collection!), a gift and a dozen white roses (yay – remember the encounter with a dozen red roses?!).
Friday night was a Thai dinner which we thought was rather small and overpriced – that’s the problem with fancy meals sometimes. So for lunch the next day, we opted for a Nigerian restaurant, and then had a good time at a friend’s barbecue. What’s a UK summer without everyone lighting up their barbecues?
Sunday was spa day, and I didn’t want the massages to end. I feel like I need a spa day and massage every single day. Probably due to all the time spent at my desk. Monday came and back to work and the grind. Not much really happens during the week.
But it’s Friday again and I’ve got a masked summer party to attend, so hoping that’s fun. Other than that, we’d probably have a chilled weekend and I’ll be catching up on so many blogs I have to read!
Here are some fun links you might enjoy this weekend:
~ These are 40 useful lifestyle apps you really need on your phone. I’m planning to head to the Apple Store this weekend for guidance on how to create space on my phone so I can actually download these for increased productivity!
~ These reminders are often so so necessary. So, 10 uncomfortable things that would make you happy and successful. I agree – making small talk can be uncomfortable!
~ I loved loved this post about motherhood and parenting in Namibia. Like the movies, Kaylan moved from NY to Namibia to teach for a year, & ended up falling in love with Elago and staying back! It’s awesome – read it!
~ Still on motherhood, 4 women including our own Ozoz, Kitchen Butterfly share their experiences on Motherhood & Creativity. Does having kids negatively affect your creativity?
~ Remember when we interviewed Haneefah on the Blog? She’s the creator of Hijarbie Doll and was on CNN Africa voices talking about her creation. Watch!
~ This is a long read – but for bloggers, absolutely worth it! The 6000 word guide on how to be successful as a blogger in 2017.
Oh I thought, I’ll also start sharing a niche blog which you may like, with every edition of these Notes. These blogs, vlogs, podcasts or platform should hopefully make our lives so much richer and fun. Today is www.ZinnyFactor.com. Zinny blogs on HR/Career related matters and always has so much useful content. Check it out!
Let me know your plans for the weekend and coming week. Doing anything fun or interesting? What are you reading, watching or listening to? Share with us.
One more thing, please share your fave blogs, vlogs, podcasts, websites and YouTube channels (particularly if these have Afro- Carrribean related content). I’d love to find some new blogs but no idea where to look!
Have a fab weekend people.
Love,
Kachee… xx

July 7, 2017 at 18:31Hi Kachee!! I really enjoyed this post, especially the link to Kayla’s motherhood experience: I was shocked by how easily she seemed to fit into the community, and make home away from home. Have a great weekend!

July 10, 2017 at 16:22Really remarkable links, Kachee! Thanks for sharing! And the Kaylan post! Oh my! I cannot find the right words to describe her! Her spirit is amazing! The way she just blends into her husband’s culture, WOW! Such feat will be hard even for two Namibians from different tribes, not to talk of two Africans from different countries; and then all the way to an American and a typical Namibian, with such close ties to rural living! She is amazing!Truly, love covers all!And zinnyfactor.com is so resourceful!theimmigrantsjourney.wordpr…
