Buying Our First UK Home: The Journey + 7 Lessons We Learnt

by , on
February 17, 2022

I kicked off 2022 on Instagram sharing about our new home, which was one of our biggest highlights of 2021. We had purchased a commercial property and did a pretty interesting renovation to make it residential.

It was a very different experience from our first time buying experience in April 2017 where we purchased a new build off the block.

That experience though, as they say gave us a foot on the ladder.

So almost five years later, I’ve reflected on some of the journey and sharing some of the things we did right, some lessons learned and one or two things we could have done better!

50+ Black Santa Christmas Decorations

Black Santa Christmas Items UK

I’ve put together this Etsy folder full Black Santa and other Christmas ornaments and accessories with Black people.

Why Black Santa for Christmas?

The truth is, I’d never really considered a brown skinned Santa Claus or more popularly called a Black Santa. Even as a child living in Lagos Nigeria where pretty much everyone was brown skinned, most of the Santa images on TV were white. Nonetheless, that was fine because the colour of our skin was never an issue.

Currently, as a mum living in the U.K. with young toddlers and very conscious of racial / ethnic diversity I still didn’t think I was deliberately going to hunt down brown skinned Santa or elves . This was until I saw a comment on a friend’s Instagram page saying “what! Santa is Black now?”.

That infuriated me.

How To Pose in Pregnancy Photos Without Showing your Belly

Is it possible to take photos while pregnant without showing you bump? It just might be!

As a blogger or content creator, a lot of what you do revolves around sharing your life updates or photos. But at the same time, pregnancy can be such a delicate journey that sometimes people just want to experience it privately and with close family and bits.

For both of my pregnancies, I didn’t share on social media or the blog until our boys arrived. That first time for me was a lot easier. Although I’d started blogging and growing my Instagram page, I hadn’t fully gotten into sharing photos of myself. So I don’t think anything was overly suspect.

The second time though in 2019/2020 was much trickier. I’d begun to share photos of myself and so as my bump grew I had to get creative. I didn’t want to take a complete break but I also didn’t want to show my baby bump.

Our (2020 Pandemic) Birth Story

Giving Birth in a Pandemic

Having a baby in the pandemic was not funny! Given how dramatic the circumstances were, I’ve wanted to write this blog post as quickly as I could. But with being a mum of 2, a pandemic and juggling a million things, I just didn’t get round to it.

A couple of weeks ago, I got a request from Aisha to share my birth story on her podcast – The Whole Mama Show. Simply having that conversation spurred me on to finish off the draft and share.

So 18 months later, here’s how I almost had my child on the concrete floor outside the hospital.

AD: 3 Sterilising Products for the Mum on-the-Go!

I’m working in a paid relationship with BritMums promoting the Munchkin 59S Mini Steriliser Portable UV Sanitiser. Get more information at

If there’s one thing mums are passionate about, it’s the health, safety and hygiene of their children. I chat with mums both in real life and online and that priority always sticks out. While babies and kids tend to often drop their bottles, dummies and toys, we really can’t stand the thought that they might be exposed to harmful germs. This concern shows itself in several ways with regular activities including the frequent sterilisation of baby utensils.

In doing this though, many mums and parents also really easy, efficient sterilising methods. Finding the balance between that peace of mind and relative ease can often be a Herculean task.

I surely did not see that coming. But then again, I didn’t think I’d be having a baby in the middle of a global health crisis. It was definitely an experience.

On Friendship: Do You Know Your Friends’ Love Language?

friends love language

Is it important to know your friends’ love language?

A few years ago, my friend sent me a message saying something along the lines of “we really need to chat and define this friendship and what we expect from each other”

I must have looked at the phone for a good two minutes. What did that mean? Weren’t we just friends who caught up with each other, shared concerns, celebrated and supported each other.
